Artificial Intelligence is no longer a future technology.
It is already shaping how our children learn, create, communicate, and prepare for the world they will inherit. Whether we realize it or not, AI is becoming a part of everyday life in schools, workplaces, and homes.
As a parent, I found myself asking a simple question:
How can I help my children thrive in a world increasingly influenced by AI?
Unfortunately, most of the information available today falls into one of two extremes. Some sources portray AI as a magical solution to every problem. Others focus entirely on fear, risk, and worst-case scenarios.
The truth is somewhere in the middle.
AI presents extraordinary opportunities for learning, creativity, accessibility, and personal growth. It also introduces real challenges around privacy, misinformation, bias, safety, and the future of work. Parents need practical guidance that acknowledges both realities.
That is why I created ParentsGuideToAI.ca.
This project is designed to help parents understand:
- What AI is and how it works
- How children are already using AI tools
- How AI may change education over the coming decade
- Ways parents can use AI to support learning at home
- Privacy and safety considerations for families
- How to teach children critical thinking in an AI-enabled world
- What skills will matter most in the future workforce
My goal is not to convince parents that AI is good or bad.
My goal is to help parents make informed decisions and have better conversations with their children.
Technology has always changed the world. AI may simply be the fastest and most significant technological shift many of us will experience in our lifetimes. By understanding it together, we can help ensure our children are prepared not only to adapt to that future, but to help shape it.
